We started Uniself because good books were stuck in the wrong warehouses.

A publisher's backlist, a distributor's overstock, an indie author's only copy — they all deserve one shelf a reader can actually find. That's what we built.

Our Core Story

For decades, book distribution was a game of volume. Big-box retailers dictated which authors got front-of-store table display, and smaller publishers were forced to pay heavy slotting fees just to remain indexed. Millions of excellent, niche books were printed but never found their readers, stored in peripheral warehouses until they were remaindered or pulped.

Uniself was founded in 2019 by a small group of booksellers, designers, and software engineers who believed that physical books need a modern, decentralized marketplace. We don't prioritize high-margin best sellers over quiet literary titles. We index everything, treat every catalog equally, and connect readers directly with independent storage points.

Our Literary Philosophy

  • 01 Decentralized Cataloging: Every publisher, from university press to self-published zine, gets the exact same layout standard.
  • 02 Anti-Algorithmic Discovery: We promote curation networks, editorial logs, and reader journals over automated click-only algorithms.
  • 03 Secure Merchant Transit: All purchase transactions use secure individual merchant routing for quick publisher payouts.

"We don't sell books. We host the conversations between those who write them and those who need them."
